Beverly Hills ACL Reconstruction

By Steven Meier

The anterior cruciate ligament is one of the most important ligaments in the body. It is located in the center of the knee. The ligaments in the knee help to stabilize the joint. They also connect the tibia and femur and help hold them together. In addition to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), there are three other primary ligaments in the knee:

  • Posterior cruciate ligament (PCL)
  • Lateral collateral ligament (LCL)
  • Medial collateral ligament (MCL)

Because the knee bears so much of the weight during athletics, it is commonly injured. Athletes and nonathletes alike are prone to injury. Common causes of a damaged anterior cruciate ligament are:

  • Quick changes of direction
  • Sudden stops
  • Awkward landings
  • Direct contact

If you’ve suffered from an injured ACL, don’t wait. Contact Meier Orthopedic Sports and Regenerative Medicine today to learn about Beverly Hills ACL Reconstruction. Call (310) 777-7845 or fill our the online contact form.

Beverly Hills ACL Reconstruction

In order to reconstruct a torn ACL, Dr. Meier begins by preparing a new graft to replace the damaged anterior cruciate ligament. This graft comes from one of two places: either the patient’s own body or the body of a donor. A graft that comes from the patient’s own body is called an autograft, while a graft that comes from a donor’s body is called an allograft.

Once the graft is prepared, the doctor performs arthroscopic surgery on the knee to install the graft. First, Dr. Meier removes the torn ACL. Then he fixes the new graft in its place. Over the next several weeks patients will most likely be asked to wear a brace on the knee and use crutches to avoid weight bearing while the graft heals.
